PerspectiveA photo mark captured of a pair of Belugas who had swam through a lead in the breaking ice. Here you can see them exiting the ice pack. Beluga are well adapted to ice travel but they still have to surface for air to breath between this ice. This mature pair was some of the first to make it through the breaking spring ice as a pod with some young calfs waited for larger openings before risking entering the ice. It still amazes me how well they navigate

This beautiful boat was built in the 1930’s which interestingly was also when some of the older female killer whales who still swim these waters today were born
