Lost in Time

Lost in TimeA simple shot for such a complex marine mammal. As I sat hove to, in almost silence apart from the occasion sail flap in the light wind, I snapped this shot just before I watched this male killer whale disappear over the horizon. It was not until I finally turned around, I realised I had lost track of time. What was also very memorable was the sound as he exhaled which travelled surprisingly well over the calm water. I had been standing in the icy wind for hours

I often image them as of pieces of art that have taken thousand of years to produce

unpredictable katabatibc winds blew over the glacier and intensified to over 60 knots

Hard not to have love and respect for these resilient animals

Each species of baleen whale has its own unique pattern when exhaling

Im not sure this one needs too many words

With no other humans around for many miles

we had spent the day exploring a glacier cut fjord in the Broughton Archipelago and on our evening boat cruise back to camp we spotted some blows in the distance a ways up the inlet
