This piece is a tribute to the women of Baiyer and its people

Made from natural materials like bark cloth

brutalised in silence

Baiyer is renowned for its dense tropical rainforest

Some of the patterns are my own creative designs

she assumes her rightful position—an embodiment of strength

for the first time

The woman is a Western Highlands woman in a tribal attire with another distinct marking on her face

the descendants of those resilient Hela men and women stand at the forefront of change

This connection between their art and their environment felt like a perfect tribute to their culture and spirit
