The design is inspired by a plate made in Bell's Pottery factory in Glasgow, 'Peacocks & Lillies 1887'. The original is now held in the Hunterian Collection. Design elements on the 575 plate include: the Cloisters; the Lion and Unicorn from the Old College staircase; the University's resident peregrine falcons, Bonnie and Clyde;
