These charming stools or spring benches, (or Chung Dengs), hinting that the seat could be shared by lovers. They were typically placed to the exterior of shops outside the door. Pairs were often placed opposite each other in gateways and acquired the name 'gate benches'. Circa: 19th Century Origin: China
